Accident closes mill

24/07/2008 3:54:00 PM
SafeWork SA is working with the new owners of Timber Creek Pine Sawmill Pty Ltd to address a number of safety management issues identified following the investigation of a recent incident on the premises, involving a forklift.

The new owners of the facility – Sustainable Forestry Management Ltd - are actively co-operating with SafeWork SA on implementing an improved workplace safety system, according to a SafeWork SA spokesman.

As part of the process of complying with a number of notices issued, it had been necessary to temporarily close sections of the facility.

“SafeWork SA is committed to working with the owners to return the sawmill to full production, and is appreciative of the co-operation extended thus far, “ the spokesman said.

SFM is a multi-national forestry company that recently bought the mill from a finance company. The mill re-opened in mid-2006 under the name Timber Creek Pine, funded by Seiza Capital, with plans for a $9 million expansion. SFM also owns pine plantations on the island.
