Simsmetal brought its $1 million car crushing machine, above, to Kangaroo Island last week at the invitation of Mark West to clear the wrecked cars from his property at the outskirts of Kingscote.
The land where the hundreds of cars were stored is zoned commercial/light industrial but had been the subject of regular complaints to the Kangaroo Island Council. Mr West said the complaints had increased since roadside vegetation screening the site had been cleared. Mr West had organised for the machine to visit three other sites to crush cars. Many of the wrecks were taken from the island last week with the remainder to go this week.
