The KI Natural Resources Management Board’s On-ground Works program is open for expressions of interest and part of the funding will not be secured without your help.
Funding for the program will be offered for the first time in two rounds. Funding is secured for Round One but funding for Round Two is subject to a competitive process at a national level and will need expressions of interest to be successful. Both rounds are now open for expressions of interest.
Round One funding will continue the open access for works that implement sustainable agricultural practices (e.g. perennial pastures, salt-land agronomy, clay spreading) and biodiversity, maintenance or enhancement activities (fencing remnant vegetation or revegetation).
It will specifically target works that reduce nutrient and sediment inflows into the Cygnet River catchment such as excluding stock from riverine vegetation, revegetating riverine vegetation, planting perennial pastures, relocating in-stream watering points, and improving stock or vehicle crossings.
Round Two funding has two objectives:
Adapting primary production systems to climate change
Improving the health and resilience of our native vegetation.
The new federal funding system requires the Board to provide written evidence of landowner agreement before submitting the funding application, by the end of July.
This agreement does not commit the landowner (nor the Board) to undertake the works and works will still be assessed in the normal way.
It does allow the Australian Government to see that the landowner is willing to participate.
Works in Round Two will be announced later in the year once federal funding has been confirmed.
Failure to provide an agreement will make it extremely difficult for the Board to fund your project this year.
Landowners wishing to participate in Round Two On-ground works should contact Mark Morris (8553 4371) or Grant Flanagan (8553 4370) promptly.
