Wild weather dumps good rains

24/07/2008 3:55:00 PM
A week of wild weather saw rain and strong winds across KI.

Cape Willoughby has received more than 80ml of rain this month, while Cape Borda has received 89ml and Kingscote received 44.8ml (as of Monday, July 21).

Parndana East farmer Sam Mumford said “The rain is quite handy and has restored my faith in the season.”

“The season is starting to look up, I was doing the rounds the other day and crops are looking really good. The areas that were struggling for pasture should pick up from now and the run off is filling up the dams which is really important,” Karatta agronomist Rick Morris said.

July is generally the wettest month on KI with the highest recorded rainfall being 241ml. The average rainfall for Kingscote is 67.3ml and the lowest recorded was 29ml. Cape Borda has an average 106.4ml with the lowest being 36.8ml while Cape Willoughby has an average of 81.3ml with the lowest 28.6ml.
