Life Member’s Trophy

Seventeen players braved the elements on Sunday for the annual Life Member’s Trophy.

Rain threatened for most of the day and luckily stayed out to the west, but the field had to contend with a wind that at times bordered on gale force.

There is still some doubt as whether Gary Florance was playing at a different course and I think something was mentioning about a drug test, but he must have played exceptionally well to finish +10 and take out the trophy.

Our grade winners were:

A Grade Eddie Smith +2 and runner up Dean Wiles square.

B Grade was won by Brian Laundy square followed by Mark Virgo –1.

Obviously the C Grade was won by a country mile by Gary Florance +10 with Rodney Smith +3 narrowly beating John Jenkins on a countback for second.

The players to judge the wind the best were Dean Wiles NTP on No.9, Laighton Virgo No.14 (his dad didn’t even make the creek) and Brian Laundy on No.17.

With a CCR of +2 Gary Florance was the only one that did any real damage to his handicap.

With another blustery weekend forecast next week, and then the third and final round of Club Championship Qualifiers the following weekend we will be hoping for some better conditions.
