Well it has been a while, certainly time the Kangaroo Island Pistol Club got back into these pages. We had our annual AGM earlier this month and saw in a few key changes to the committee, namely Barry Maynard taking over the job of secretary and scorer.
Sunday July 20 shoot was Standard pistol with a surprising larger turn out. With the beginning of the shoot a bit wet the targets didn’t hold out too well. With some creative scoring needed after discovering more holes than normal after some patches went astray.
However the sun did peek out a bit and after changing targets for the 20 and 10 second stages, scoring was easier.
Another surprise was the number of members who actually broke their handicaps! A handicap score is formulated on your previous shoots. This handicap is then added on to your offgun score, the score you actually shot for the match. The person getting closest to or equal to 600 wins on handicap. However if you shoot too good and your final score is above 600, this is called breaking your handicap and you don’t get a placing.
With that in mind, Barry Maynard came first on a handicap of 597 (offgun 512). A few of us think he throws a few shots to look after his handicap, as it’s rare that he breaks. Like today, he threw one out and got a three!
Second was Doug Seton on 593 (200), well done mate. Third was Jeff Starr on 573 (443). The only other person that didn’t break handicap was Rick Cane on 550 (280).
The other shooters were Graham Trembath 658 (454), Greg Waller 615 (467), Terry Harrison 619 (471), David Goble 613 (474), Ken Pitt 867 (369) and Lyn Cane 644 (295).
Our next shoot is Black powder and rapid fire on the 27th, I hope the large turn out continues. Until next time straight shooting.
