Race fans were treated to some inspiring displays of driving skills at our last meeting.
Jack Buick debuted in No. 23 in 125 class from rear of field and took outright honours among serious competition, while veteran Steven Zealand swept all before him to score maximum points in KT’s.
Fifteen karts participated in some high-octane action under the watchful gaze of National Association President David Earl and Secretary David Palmer.
KTs kicked off first with a good win to young tyro James Ridley, but it was all downhill after that for the No. 8 as DNF’s took their toll and the wily Zedman went up a gear.
Zed powered on to win the next five straight, great effort ya concrete-hardened ol’ cuss.
Peter Lock did well with three seconds from ROF for second outright with Josh Bates also rear of field, just four points in arrears for third.
In the kids’ J Class, all raced well. Corey Willson led the pack and the points with 91 and two wins.
Livewire Connor Hall and the consistent Tristan Griffith were equal second on 86 and Sam Kempster finished third after blitzing three race wins.
125s was closely fought. Nugget vacated early with a seized engine, and early DNF’s to Phil, Barnsey and Zed left Slippers, the Hustling Hamster and last year’s KT champ Jack ‘the karting cockatiel’ Buick (love the new helmet mate) salivating over the last couple of heats.
Only three karts were to finish each of the final two races however, and Jack from the Back did enough to win the day just two points ahead of Steve Kempster’s No. 4. Beaut racing chaps.
Good to see some young chargers having a dip at day’s end for a Youth Week event.
Thanks to all concerned, also thanks to the support crew, especially the two Davids from AIDKA for coming over to share their invaluable knowledge, and good luck to those participating in the State Titles at Blanchetown this weekend.
Next meeting is on May 18 with another slotted in for June 1 as a catchup day.
Seeya there, remembering, even in Youth Week, that it's better to be over the hill than under it!
