Queensland police say they are "stunned" after nearly 550 drivers were caught speeding within three hours along a single stretch of road in Brisbane.Officers set up a mobile speed camera on the Gateway Motorway at Eagle Farm yesterday afternoon.Of the 6320 vehicles zapped by the radar between 12.45 and 3.45pm, a total of 548 were found to be exceeding the 80 kmh limit.Metropolitan North Regional Traffic Coordinator, Inspector Jac Feather said the figure equated to one in every 12 motorists."On the tail end of a number of long weekends and an alarming 2007 road toll, the attitudes of drivers underestimating the dangers of speeding is disturbing," Inspector Feather said."Senior Police are stunned that 548 drivers were caught in this three hour period. Drivers need to accept responsibility for their actions and ensure that they obey the rules of the road in particular compliance with speed zones."To make matters worse, police believe many of the offending vehicles were carrying children at the time."Sunday was Mother's Day and it is thought that a large majority of these vehicles detected speeding may have had family members on board including children."
